Shade – a Concept that Creates Shadows

October 2nd, 2009

Let’s say you enjoy the light and you like the shadows. You would like to “play” with them. Then, you have the imagination; you have Olivier Butstraen and the concept that allows you to create whatever you have in mind. What would you do then? Well, you can do this:

shade_1

Shade is a concept that allows you to control shadows by manipulating the light by touching and stroking the surface in different ways. It also has behavioral automation that detects the way you move and where you place yourself in the room and it adjusts the shadows based on your habits.

Oh…I know some things that you could do with this concept and a few people that would love it.

The Stress Watch, The Path To a Calm and Relaxed Life

October 2nd, 2009

As if our body language doesn’t betray us enough when we are nervous or stressed, seems like we need a watch that makes the stress level even more obvious.

Or at least, this is what Michael Mathis and Gerda Hopfgartner were thinking when they designed The Stress Watch.

stresswatch_2

How does it work? Well, in addition to keeping the time, it reports the Biofeedback of several body functions. Its role is to warn you when your stress level is too high. As you slow down your breathing and find your optimal breathing rate, you will literally see a change of the graphic chart. So the alarming well-being waves transform into smooth one with cool colors and the stress line decreases back to the relaxing indication.

They “guarantee” that this concept will make you a “cool relaxed person in every situation”. Personally I know that, with or without this watch, if I want to scream, I’ll scream.

Water Catcher Concept, New Generation of Water Purifier

August 28th, 2009

Do you remember the song “I’m only happy when it rains?” Looks like the small flying ball shaped concept designed by Penghao Shan knows best how to “enjoy” the rain.

The_Water_Catcher_ 1

The_Water_Catcher_ 2

The Water Catcher concept is a flying rain catcher and water purifier. The device dispatches small flying balls in te air to catch the raindrops that will be purified.  Once purified, the balls take the drinking water directly to a person, that’ll appease the thirst. The homing tray (the place from where the balls are launched) can read fingerprints to  determine what additives should be added to the water to ensure the drinker optimizes their health.

Ocean Rescue Concept Could Get You Out of the Water Alive

August 24th, 2009

The Ocean Rescue is a concept gadget designed by Seol-Hee Son, Cheol-yeon Jo and Seung-hyun Yoon and intended to provide emergency support to those who are lost at sea by transmitting a radio frequency signal.

The_Ocean_Rescue_concept_1

In addition to this, it can offer the necessary supply of pure drinking water, it can produce colourful smoke during the day and emit light during the night. The process is easy: Ocean Rescue will boil the salty water, thus separating the salt from the water.

It can generate electricity through a chemical reaction. This energy is used to boil the water, to produce the smoke during the day and to emit the light during the night. I wonder what would have happened if the characters from Lost had the Ocean Rescue with them.

Squidolin is a Squid-Like Violin and Music Teacher

August 23rd, 2009

Carlos Mendez’s Squidolin is the easiest way to learn how to play the violin. Although it sounds like an regular instrument, the Squidolin teaches you to play through a series of simple exercises.

The squid-like shape, the proportions aesthetically and functionally right, the colours, the Maple wood and the shapes make this violin seem like the embodiment of perfection. The concept violin uses digital strings, reducing the learning pain and being much easier to setup.

You’ll use a ball as a bow grip and you should know that this violin breaks down the notes of a song and shows you how to play the tune of choice.

The Coolest Mouse for Creepy Guys is a Steampunk Concept

August 23rd, 2009

I suppose Ivan Mavrovic had a bad day or an ugly nightmare when he designed this concept. It looks like a sheep’s head. Actually it is a real sheep’s skull, but don’t worry, as the he sheep died a natural death.  Or, at least, this is what they say…

steampunk_mouse_concept_1

Obviously, you might have guessed by now that this is a steampunk mouse concept we’re dealing with and it’s not every day that you get to see a piece of a possible post-apocalyptic culture. This would go perfectly with a steampunk iPhone design we’ve seen a while back…

The VIU Contact Lens, Feelings Delivered Through Sight

August 22nd, 2009

For those who can’t take the reality, VIU Contact Lens may be the solution. This concept changes your sight depending on your feelings and emotions, by measuring your pupil dilatation, blood pressure, eye movements and even hormones in your tear fluid.

Viu_concept_contact_lens_1

VIU overemphasizes important things and brings unimportant things down, so that no undesired feelings or emotions are revealed. I wonder what happens when you cry and you have those lenses on. You see yourself smiling?

This concept was created by Christofer Kümmerer.

Leaf Bracelet Phone is a Fashionable Gadget, Powered by Solar Energy

August 19th, 2009

When it comes to fashion, you may say that we can do everything. By combining technology with elegance and utility, designers Seungkyun Woo and Junyi Heo created “The Leaf”. It is a wearable bracelet phone that uses solar energy to recharge its battery. And if it is a cloudy day, you can use the old fashioned way: electricity.

Although it looks like a complicated gadget, it is a pretty basic phone, with calls and messages functions only. But who wouldn’t like to wear an elegant bracelet-phone? I know I would!
